Religious Education
Christ and His teachings are at the heart of all we do in school. We strive to offer children every opportunity to deepen their faith by learning and living the Catholic faith on their spiritual journey through our school.
Through our carefully planned RE curriculum, we aim to guide the children to become religiously literate young people who have the knowledge, understanding and skills to think spiritually and theologically, and who are aware of the demands of religious commitment in our everyday lives.
Religious Education Directory
All planning follows the Religious Education Directory - To Know You More Clearly 2025.

We use the Magister Resources ‘Firm Foundations’ programme, which is fully aligned with the Religious Education Directory (RED), approved by the CES and granted an Imprimatur, to ensure that every child receives a rich and faithful Catholic education.
Our intent is to:
· Provide a theologically sound, engaging and coherent RE curriculum rooted in Scripture, Tradition and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
· Enable all pupils to develop religious literacy, so they can understand, explain and reflect on the beliefs, practices and moral teachings of the Catholic faith.
· Nurture pupils’ spiritual and moral formation, encouraging them to encounter Christ, deepen their relationship with God, and live out Gospel values in their daily lives.
· Ensure pupils also develop an informed understanding of other religions and worldviews, in line with the RED, fostering respect, curiosity and dialogue.
· Promote an inclusive curriculum where every child is valued, supported and challenged, enabling them to flourish academically, personally and spiritually.
Through high-quality RE, we aim to help all pupils grow into compassionate, reflective and courageous young people who can make positive contributions to their communities and the wider world.
Implement:
We implement our RE curriculum using Magister’s fully planned, editable and RED-aligned scheme, ensuring consistency, progression and strong subject knowledge across the school.
Key features of our implementation include:
· Structured progression from EYFS to Year 6, covering all six branches of the RED.
· Use of ready-to-teach resources including lesson PowerPoints, differentiated activities, assessment tasks, vocabulary guides and teacher notes.
· A focus on engagement and encounter, with lessons incorporating Scripture, theology, reflection, discussion, art, role play and opportunities for prayer and contemplation.
· Adaptive teaching that ensures all pupils can access and succeed in RE, including SEND pupils and higher attainers.
· Regular opportunities for teachers to review learning, assess understanding and respond to pupils’ needs through questioning, mini-plenary activities and structured written outcomes.
· Integration of RE with Catholic Life and Collective Worship, reinforcing key teachings and encouraging children to live out the values they learn in class.
Through Magister’s comprehensive materials and our commitment to high-quality teaching, pupils experience a well-sequenced curriculum that builds their knowledge, understanding and skills year on year.
Impact
The impact of our RE curriculum is evident in the knowledge, skills and spiritual awareness our pupils demonstrate.
Pupils at our school:
· Develop secure and age-appropriate religious literacy, understanding key beliefs, vocabulary and Scripture within the Catholic tradition.
· Show increasing capacity to think theologically, ask deep questions, make connections and express personal insight.
· Demonstrate respect, empathy and openness when learning about other faiths and worldviews.
· Engage meaningfully in prayer, reflection and discussion, showing signs of personal spiritual growth and moral development.
· Can articulate how the teachings of Christ and the values of the Gospel influence their choices, actions and relationships.
· Produce high-quality written and verbal work that shows progress across year groups and readiness for the next stage of education.
Ultimately, our use of Magister Resources supports us in forming pupils who are thoughtful, confident and compassionate — young people who know about their faith, understand it, and are inspired to live it out.
